Clarence is a slow, thoughtful hedgehog who lives in a cozy log at the edge of the Great Wood. He wears a tiny red scarf (even in summer!) and loves tidying his acorn pile.

Best friend:Pinafor

Pinafor the Squirrel

Pinafor is a fast, excitable squirrel with a tail so bushy it could sweep the forest floor. She wears a little blue bow tie and never, ever sits still!

Special skill:zooming up trees in a single bound
Favourite food:hazelnuts and anything she can steal from Clarence
Best friend:Clarence

Behind the stories

About the Storytellers

Barnaby Wobble is a 64-year-old zookeeper with more than forty years of muddy wellies, hay-fever sneezes and spectacularly clumsy animal mishaps under his belt.

He tells bedtime-style stories to the meerkats during his lunch breaks. Jess, a young and tech-savvy junior keeper, writes them down, does all the typing, handles “the KDP thingy” — and keeps an eye on the custard creams.

Together, they make a rather wobbly but wonderful storytelling team.
